Summitreks Stores and Summitreks Activities are owned and managed by
Ron Rutland and Hilary Mills, who are keen walkers, climbers and
skiers with a life-long passion for the outdoors. Ron is a fully
qualified outdoor
education teacher and holds the MLTB Summer and Winter
Certificates, as well as the Mountain Instructors Certificate - the
top instructors’ award. Ron has participated in several notable
mountain climbing expeditions over the years, including Everest and
Shishapangma in south central Tibet, both in 2007. In October
2008 he completed an expedition to climb Manaslu summit, the world’s
eighth highest mountain. Ron writes:
There are three Summitreks outdoor shops in the Lake District, in
Coniston, Ambleside and Hawkshead. All the shops stock leading
brands of outdoor clothing, sportswear and equipment. Some of the
best-selling brands include Falke, Odlo, Sprayway, and Columbia. We
also stock camping equipment,
mountaineering equipment, navigational aids. Other popular
lines are our Vaude and Deuter rucksacks and Grivel crampons.
Many of our great-value products are now available in our online
shop, which is regularly updated with new products, discounts and
special offers, and is well worth a visit. You can also find
up-to-date news and information and maps and directions to find our
retail shops.
The Summitreks activities are coordinated from our
Activities Centre in Coniston, with a year round selection of
courses, adventure days and activity sessions for adults and
children, all designed to give people the opportunity to acquire new
outdoor skills or to practise existing ones. Activities include
kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, gorge scrambling,
orienteering, navigational skills, adventure walks, mountain walks
and aquaseiling (abseiling waterfalls).
Our programme of Winter Skills courses is organised in conjunction
with the YHA (Youth
Hostels Association), and take place in the stunning and
dramatic scenery of
the Lake District National Park. These hugely popular winter
activity breaks are directed by Ron Rutland and come with
accommodation, home cooked meals, instructions and equipment hire
included. Our shops are located at:
