The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway
(Ravenglass)
La'al Ratty, as it's affectionately known,
started life as a narrow gauge railway for transporting slate down from
the hills. After a chequered history, its future was ensured through a
dedicated band of volunteers and tourism. Now it's a wonderful family
attraction, with miniature steam trains chugging along the valley from
Ravenglass to Eskdale (at Boot station, a perfect base for walkers). A day
out here was one of my favourite Lakes pastimes as a child, and the same
is true for my own children. Very definitely A Top Attraction!
