This popular theatre deserves your support
for the fantastic programme of events it puts on each year. The delightful
venue is highly recommended, not only for its charm but also for the fun
filled evening you'll have when you visit. The Old Laundry Theatre is
situated in Bowness-on-Windermere in the heart of the Lake District. The
lively annual season of music, theatre, comedy and film starts on 27th
August 2009 and finishes at the end of November 2009. The theatre was
opened in 1992 by Sir Alan Ayckbourn, a trustee of the theatre. The
theatre season is run by a registered charity, Bowness Theatre Festival
Ltd, with financial and practical support from The World of Beatrix Potter
Attraction - the business it shares a building and facilities with. Its
design is based on Sir Alan's original theatre in Scarborough, making it
one of only six 'in-the-round' theatres in the UK (seating up to 280 in
the round or 250 in a conventional stage layout).

That is what we are working on as this brochure goes to press. Feedback

Words by the Water Literature Festival - Another word-packed, idea-filled programme
Friday 5 March - Sunday 14 March, Main House and Studio
Facts and fiction, ideas and inspiration: there will be
a cacophony of words from the 5-14 March at Theatre by the Lake when the
Ninth Words by the Water Literature Festival takes place. A crowd of
readers and writers will jostle together in a book-induced euphoric
haze. We can't claim to provide something for everyone or to please all
the people all of the time but we feel confident that those with an open
mind, love of words, and a curiosity about the world will enjoy the
sheer diversity of the programme. Be adventurous, be curious, try the
unknown, and treat yourself to many events at the festival.
Festival Pass A: This pass gives entry to all events in the Main House during the
Words by the Water Literature Festival from Friday 5 March - Tuesday 9
March inclusive.
Please note that if you buy a pass online the Box Office will

Water's Edge return having recently completed their third album

promises to be a great evening of original Cumbrian music.

An evening of swinging and entertaining jazz in the
company of reeds player, John Hallam, one of the UK's finest jazz

Adams on drums. John's special guest is the inimitable, and very popular
guitarist and vocalist, 'Spats' Langham.

Jenny Coverack stars in her own one-woman play (as seen
in the Antarctic) about the remarkable Kathleen Scott, widow of explorer
Captain Robert Scott who died on the polar ice a century ago. Kathleen
was a traveller and sculptor, friend of Isadora Duncan; she went
barefoot, preferred to sleep outside (even in London) and cared for
refugees in Macedonia. And she wanted a son – but not necessarily a
husband.

Hollywood movie shoot. This is a two-man tour de force featuring Theatre
by the Lake favourites, Dennis Herdman and James Nickerson. In a
triumph of characterisation and physical comedy they play a “cast of
thousands”'- including the two Irish fellas intent on becoming big
movie players, the diva lead Hollywood actress whose Irish accent leaves
a lot to be desired, a Scots minder and the last surviving extra from
The Quiet Man.
Winner of the prestigious Olivier and
Evening Standard awards for Best Comedy after running for four record
breaking years in the West End, it then ran on Broadway and received a
