This popular theatre deserves your support for the fantastic programme of events it puts on each year. The delightful venue is highly recommended, not only for its charm but also for the fun filled evening you'll have when you visit. The Old Laundry Theatre is situated in Bowness-on-Windermere in the heart of the Lake District. The lively annual season of music, theatre, comedy and film starts on 27th August 2009 and finishes at the end of November 2009. The theatre was opened in 1992 by Sir Alan Ayckbourn, a trustee of the theatre. The theatre season is run by a registered charity, Bowness Theatre Festival Ltd, with financial and practical support from The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction - the business it shares a building and facilities with. Its design is based on Sir Alan's original theatre in Scarborough, making it one of only six 'in-the-round' theatres in the UK (seating up to 280 in the round or 250 in a conventional stage layout). How to follow our 10th anniversary festival last year? That is what we are working on as this brochure goes to press. Feedback includes 'best film festival anywhere', 'another wonderful festival, can't wait for next year!' and 'we come each year specially and hope to do so again' so if you haven't been to the festival do come and try it out. We begin with the opening party and Gala Screening at the theatre for passholders and invited guests on the evening of Thu 25 February, followed by three days of around 30 films, visiting directors and filmmakers. Words by the Water Literature Festival -  Another word-packed, idea-filled programme

Facts and fiction, ideas and inspiration: there will be a cacophony of words from the 5-14 March at Theatre by the Lake when the Ninth Words by the Water Literature Festival takes place. A crowd of readers and writers will jostle together in a book-induced euphoric haze. We can't claim to provide something for everyone or to please all the people all of the time but we feel confident that those with an open mind, love of words, and a curiosity about the world will enjoy the sheer diversity of the programme. Be adventurous, be curious, try the unknown, and treat yourself to many events at the festival.

Festival Pass A: This pass gives entry to all events in the Main House during the Words by the Water Literature Festival from Friday 5 March - Tuesday 9 March inclusive.

Please note that if you buy a pass online the Box Office will allocate a seat for you for the duration of the pass.  If you wish to choose your own seat then you should buy your pass over the telephone by calling 017687 74411. After their sell out show last year, Keswick trio Water's Edge return having recently completed their third album Natural Neon. The band play well crafted melodic songs with a dynamic edge. An Evening with John Hallam & Friends featuring 'Spats' Langham

An evening of swinging and entertaining jazz in the company of reeds player, John Hallam, one of the UK's finest jazz musicians and very popular with local audiences. He makes a welcome return visit, this time accompanied by Roy Cansdale on bass and Paul Adams on drums. John's special guest is the inimitable, and very popular guitarist and vocalist, 'Spats' Langham.

Jenny Coverack stars in her own one-woman play (as seen in the Antarctic) about the remarkable Kathleen Scott, widow of explorer Captain Robert Scott who died on the polar ice a century ago. Kathleen was a traveller and sculptor, friend of Isadora Duncan; she went barefoot, preferred to sleep outside (even in London) and cared for refugees in Macedonia. And she wanted a son – but not necessarily a husband.

Stones in his Pockets is the award-winning, hilarious and sometimes poignant tale of a quiet Irish community and the change it undergoes with the arrival of a massive Hollywood movie shoot. This is a two-man tour de force featuring Theatre by the Lake favourites, Dennis Herdman and James Nickerson.  In a triumph of characterisation and physical comedy they play a “cast of thousands”'- including the two Irish fellas intent on becoming big movie players, the diva lead Hollywood actress whose Irish accent leaves a lot to be desired, a Scots minder and the last surviving extra from The Quiet Man.
